The idea behind Start Recycling is to provide a dynamic website were people can contribute to the reduction of waste heading for landfill sites every year. It is not about profit or turnover, everything is totally free.  It is a creation of Ryan Couser, a freelance web design and developer based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, as part of his university major project assessment.

Start Recycling may have some competitors in mainland Britain and America but there are no websites of this stature currently running in Northern Ireland, only mailing lists. The problem with using mailing lists is everyday your mailbox is flooded with hundreds of emails that you must filter through before finding anything useful and with there being no real-time item status you never know if the item has been taken or still up for grabs.

The difference with Start Recycling is that it is an actual website that provides real-time feedback on item status. Items can be effortlessly found with categorised district areas, recently added and search facility. No more need to flood your mailbox.
